Kaguya-Hime is a new full-length ballet based on the 10th century Japanese folktale, the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. The story follows the moon princes, Kaguya-Hime, brought to Earth as an infant and raised by humans. She grows into a beautiful woman, courted by princes and the Emperor himself. Despite the kindness of her human parents and the adoration Kaguya-Hime receives, she grows more and more melancholy as she longs to be back with her people on the Moon.
This transcendent story of love, sorrow and beauty will come to life with the combined efforts of Dallas artists, dancers and musicians, all working to explore and replicate the elegance and intrigue of Japanese culture and fashion.
